Frizz Off! Curl Cream Ingredients Explained

Do you have thick, dry, coarse, wavy, or curly hair with an oily scalp? If you do, then you are aware that managing this type of hair is not easy. I also have wavy hair that is thick and dry. I use to dread hot and humid weather. No matter what I did, I could not tame my hair. This is what drove me to work on a natural hair care product that would work for people that have wavy or curly hair that is thick and dry. To learn more about this product, please visit my shop.

Following is detailed explanation for each ingredient used in Frizz Off! curl cream:

C13-15 Alkane:

This is a GMO-free, sugar-based, ecologically green ingredient that is an alternative to silicones in cosmetic formulations. This ingredient is ECOCert-approved and a USDA Certified 100% Biobased Product that is inherently biodegradable. It’s sometimes referred to as Squalane Light. It provides hair moisture without weighing it down and gives it a smooth silky feeling.

Cera Bellina

Cera Bellina is a derivative of natural beeswax. It helps to stabilize the formula. It also helps to give the product its soft creamy feeling. Additionally, it provides soft hold, defines curls/waves, and deeply moisturizes hair.

CCT OIL:

CCT Oil is derived from coconut oil. It is a light-textured, very clear, odorless, non-staining, non-greasy liquid oil with an almost indefinite shelf life, and, above all, this oil moisturizes the hair without weighing it down.

Coconut oil:

Coconut Oil is moisturizing and prevents water loss, thereby keeping the hair shiny and soft. This oil helps to strengthen your hair, helps to reduce hair fall (hair loss), and defines curls.

Cetearyl Alcohol (and) Cetearyl Glucoside:

Cetearyl Alcohol & cetearyl glucoside both are vegetable sourced and derived from sustainable palm and coconut oil. They emulsify, thicken, and stabilize formulations. I have added these ingredients mainly because they provide long lasting conditioning to hair without weighing it down.

Olea Europaea (Olive) Oil Unsaponifiables:

Olive Oil Unsaponifiables are naturally derived from the unsaponifiable oil fractions of olives after pressing. This ingredient is rich in phytosterols and glycolipids. The benefit of using this ingredient is that it provides deep conditioning and helps to restore flexibility and strength to hair. It also helps to get rid of frizz and helps to define curls.

Rice Bran Oil:

Rice Bran Oil is extracted from rice bran, the outer coat of brown rice. It is rich in vitamins, minerals, proteins, and essential oils. Additionally, rice bran oil is also high in fatty acids. It is an excellent source of tocotrienol, an antioxidant with the potential to be much more powerful and effective than Vitamin E. Rice Bran Oil is a great conditioning agent, adding softness, luster, and shine to hair. Rice Bran Oil possesses anti-inflammatory properties, which help to keep the scalp and hair healthy.

Jojoba oil:

Jojoba Oil is not an oil. It is a mixture of long-chain monounsaturated liquid wax esters that make up 97% of it. Structurally and chemically, jojoba is very similar to the human sebum produced by the skin’s sebaceous glands. It is non-toxic, non-comedogenic (It does not clog your pores), and non-allergenic with a non-greasy feeling. Above all, jojoba oil softens and hydrates hair.

Rosemary Oleoresin/Rosemary Extract:

Rosemary Oleoresin Extract (ROE) is a natural anti-oxidant. It helps extend the shelf life of oils by preventing them from turning brown and going rancid. In addition to being a potent anti-oxidant, rosemary stimulates hair growth, is antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, refreshing, toning, astringent, and healing. Rosemary improves blood circulation which allows nutrients to be carried more effectively to the cells and waste materials are more effectively removed from them. This higher blood circulation might be the reason why, in one study, constant use of rosemary for six months showed similar benefits to minoxidil (a drug used to induce hair growth).

Lavender Extract/Lavender Essential Oil/Thyme Essential Oil/Peppermint Essential Oil:

These herbs provide similar benefits for hair. The reason I have added all of them in this product is because of the concept of synergy in the herbal sciences. Basically, it means that what one herb can do on its own, a combination of them can do it better. Following are benefits that these herbs provide to hair:

  1. They help to induce new and healthy hair growth.
  2. Due to the high amounts of antioxidants and their antimicrobial activity, these herbs help to avoid scalp and hair problems like dandruff and itchy scalp.
  3. They have anti-inflammatory properties that may help in avoiding psoriasis/eczema and may be able to calm an itchy scalp.

Lauryl Laurate:

Lauryl Laurate is a plant-based monoester wax that has a smooth, non-greasy feel. Additionally, it provides a talc-powder (silicone-like) after-feel. Basically, this ingredients gives you hair that soft and silky feeling.

Candelila Wax:

Candelila wax is a natural vegetable wax extracted from the candelilla plant. It provides hold and nourishment to hair. It also helps to stabilize formulations and define curls.

BTMS-50:

This ingredient is derived from the natural plant oil Colza. It is very light and provides excellent long term conditioning to hair. Additionally, it has excellent detangling properties for hair. BTMS-50 resists wash off, leaving hair soft and with noticeable body and spring (helps to define curls).
